Awarded Homeschool Guide's Top 5% Homeschool Website Award within days of coming online! Way to go, Knotwork!

This site is intended to address the concerns of homeschoolers who wish to use the Internet as an educational tool and resource.

One of the primary concerns seems to be that although interactivity is desired, an interactive site known to be frequented by youngsters is liable to become a primary target for those who prey upon the young. This site addresses that issue by protecting interactive areas behind authorisation devices. Simply put, only members of the Homeschool Knotwork can access the forums and other interactive features of this site.

We have noticed that many Homeschooling sites found through the large search engines are Christian propagandists or at least have a heavy Christian bias. If this site has any religious or spiritual bias it will be based on the assumption that "all true Gods are one true God so all true faiths are one". In choosing links we have tried to choose nondenominational sites over religious-propaganda sites where possible, given a choice of sites covering similar material.

This site is physically located on the Graphic Omniscient Device server in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada.

Detailed Server Traffic Statistics are available online.

This site was literally thrown up overnight at a cost of only CDN$250! Many thanks to Digitalis Data Services for their remarkable Knotwork Site offering, which provides a complete Online Site solution. Thanks to Knotwork Site technology we have not only a web site with restricted access areas, but also a mailing list, email accounts for our members, a CU-SeeMe reflector and the ability to deploy multi-user interactive environments.

Particularly exciting is the fact that this site is powered by Linux, and thus everything that it does, YOU TOO can do at home if you have a 386 or better x86 type computer! That's right, the entire site, from operating system and webserver down to the scripts for chat cafes and online forums, is all FREE SOFTWARE, available for download! We think that makes our site particularly educational.

(Note, Linux also runs on several other platforms besides x86.)

Yes, we are Linux, advocates. We feel that rather than allowing humanity's software endowment to be controlled by multinational corporations, the species will be better served by making sure its software stays freely available to all. It seems foolish to us to come out of school demanding that a prospective employer purchase some particular brand of software in order for us to work, when we COULD come out of school already owning the latest and greatest software in our fields. Each province's computer science department could focus development on one suite of applications, giving programmers-in-training direct experience working on the actual applications that their peers will be using in the workplace. The potential is just too great to be ignored.
